When Ultrasound Becomes Art: What Can You See?

In diagnostic imaging, some moments go far beyond their clinical value—they leave a lasting impression and inspire reflection. A remarkable ultrasound image is not simply one that looks visually striking; it represents the perfect combination of clinical expertise, technical excellence, keen observation, and a deep commitment to patient-centered care.

At The Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) World Congress 2026 in Vienna, the fetal medicine community came together to celebrate outstanding ultrasound images during the 2nd FMF Clinical Image Competition. The competition recognized submissions that demonstrated not only diagnostic significance and technical excellence, but also the humanistic value captured in fetal imaging.

Congratulations to Dr. Frantisek Grochal, winner of the Diagnosis category, and Dr. Lucian Pop, winner of the Art category.

These award-winning images remind us that behind every ultrasound scan lies unwavering concentration, extensive clinical experience, meticulous technique, and an unwavering focus on the patient. More importantly, they demonstrate the ability to see beyond an image—to recognize the story, meaning, and clinical insight behind every captured moment.

This year’s theme from GE HealthCare Voluson Ultrasound at FMF 2026 was:

“WHAT DO YOU SEE?”

The FMF Clinical Image Competition offered an inspiring answer. Fetal ultrasound images do far more than support diagnosis—they spark meaningful clinical discussions, encourage knowledge sharing among specialists, and celebrate the expertise of ultrasound professionals around the world.

At Voluson, a high-quality ultrasound image is more than a technically excellent scan. It tells a meaningful story—one of connection, collaboration, and comprehensive care throughout the journey of maternal and fetal health.
